In a little over an hour, I will FINALLY get my WSOP dealer orientation at the Rio and learn my primary schedule for the summer. I have been a little anxious about things, because it seems like so very little is being done to ensure the quality and training of the dealers, despite all I have read about that being a priority this year. One of the trainers from the dealing school I attended said that 14 students with no experience at all were given jobs and asked to come to the Rio Academy for WSOP training. Without exception, they were given one hand of 2-to-7 triple draw and then sent away because they already had enough training. Huh?
I never heard anything about my Nevada Gaming License. I was told that if I had a problem with it, I would have heard from them. Pick it up on Thursday at orientation. I hope so.
I have read that they rated all dealers on an A/B/C scale and that your rating would affect the choice assignments like cash games, etc. However, during my audition, I wasn't told anything about this rating. I was told that I was approved "for all games" and I saw my evaluator's sheet on me and had top marks in the eight categories he was rating. I did not see the categories, nor the critieria. I am guessing that the scale also takes into account previous WSOP experience, etc and that I am not an A. I sure hope that I am at least a B, and not relegated to the worst tasks or be shipped off to OShea's every night.
I really hope that I am able to impress the first few floormen I work for and get a chance to move around and experience all of the action, tournaments, cash play, satellite room, maybe even backfill at one of the Harrah's properties (once or twice).
