I finally was able to get a rental car on Tuesday night. I lucked out and got a free upgrade to a full size, since they were completely out of mid/econo models. Actually, after completing the paper work and heading to the garage, I saw one mid-sized car left and I purposefully loitered around until someone else took it because I was hoping to get a small SUV and there were a couple of Jeep Libertys in the next row. But, the garage rep told me that if I wanted the SUV or a sports car, I'd have to go back to the desk and renogiate. If in fact, I wanted a bigger car at the same price, I could take the last Monte Carlo or an Impala.
So, I'm now riding around in style. On the very first day, an idiot ran my out of my lane, not once but twice. I never caught a good look at the driver (on my left), but no blinkers, just moved right into me. I thought I saw a kid in a child seat too. I watched as he/she pushed one more car out of the way and then ran a red light and had to lock them up when a vehicle with right of way was turning in front of him/her. No collision, but it was a bit scary. License plate was LVRLTR.
I wish I could afford to keep it all summer, but it's likely just for a week or two until I get settled in. I'm looking to rent a room somewhere close and am not above public transportation if it is convenient. Maybe I can pick up something cheap or split costs with someone.
